Roulette is based on the simple principle of guessing into which slot a ball will drop when sent around a spinning wheel. The Dealer (Croupier) spins the wheel, accepts the bets and allocates the winnings. While you will find similarities in the way that Roulette is played around the world, there are differences in rules and the odds offered. There is also a hardware difference: the American Roulette wheel has two zeros on it (38 slots in total), while the European wheel has only one zero (37 slots in total). Clearly 1:38 gives inferior odds than 1:37.
How to play Roulette
1) Around the Roulette table are all the marks that you see on the wheel itself. This is where you place your coupons or tokens.
2) You can keep betting until the ball is going top drop into a slot. Then the Croupier says "No more bets"
3) As soon as the ball drops into a slot, you know whether you have won. Picking a number close to the winning number can also get you some winnings.
The house advantage The Casino will have a house advantage of 2.7% if it operates a 'one zero' wheel and 5.26% advantage if it operates a 'two zero wheel'.
'En Prison' rule This means that the casino holds half of your bet En Prison (in prison) for a second round or returns it to you if the ball lands on the zero.
' La Partage' rule This means that the casino returns half of your bet La Partage (split) if the ball lands on the zero.
Roulette payouts If you bet on only 1 number, you will get payment odds of 35:1. This is called a 'Straight-Up' bet. The casino allocates 37:1 payment odds for European Roulette and 38:1 for American Roulette.
